CALGARY (660 NEWS) — The City of Calgary is easing into the second phase of the provincial relaunch strategy by reopening multiple recreation facilities.
The city says four ice rinks will reopen, which include George Blunden, Optimist, Stew Hendry and Henry Viney, on Monday, June 29.
Some aquatic and fitness centres will be reopening by July 20 and will have COVID-19 health and safety protocols for staff and the public.
But four spray parks and wading pools will open in early July.
All of the city-owned golf courses will reopen June 26 that includes driving ranges and putting greens.
The city is taking a bit of a slower approach to the reopen as many people were laid off in the spring due to the pandemic and needed more time in order to get facilities ready.
When people start coming back the spaces will have a different look.
“The public can expect a different experience when they return to City-operated recreation facilities. We are helping to ensure the safety of staff and customers by introducing COVID-19 user terms and conditions in alignment with provincial public health guidelines. These include access by appointment, physical distancing, gathering restrictions, hand hygiene and staying home if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms,” Superintendent of Calgary Recreation Michelle Tait said.
Outdoor day camps will be offered throughout the summer for children ages six to 12 along with free family programming.
