Calgary fire department investigating two overnight fires

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary fire crews were called to contain separate blazes in quick succession that damaged two homes Saturday night.

The first blaze began before 10 p.m. at an unoccupied single-family residence in the southeast community of Forest Lawn. Crews were met with “large volumes of smoke with flame showing from the roof and attic area” upon their arrival.

“Crews quickly attacked the fire, first from the outside, and then moved to the interior with hose lines quickly bringing the fire under control,” the Calgary Fire Department said in a release. “Ladders were deployed to gain access to the roof area and ventilate smoke from the structure.”

The fire department received another call at approximately 10:35 p.m. for a fire in a multi-family residential dwelling in the northwest neighbourhood of Panorama Hills. Crews quickly contained the blaze that was in the kitchen before it spread.

“Damage from the fire was limited to the unit of origin with minor smoke damage to the adjacent unit.”

The occupants of the building evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews.

Crews remained at the scene of both fires throughout the night.

There were no injuries in either incident. The cause of both fires is under investigation.
