CALGARY (660 NEWS) – While it may seem like more wasps are buzzing around the city, the owner of Absolute Pest Control, Conrad Mueller said he is always quite busy with wasp removals towards the end of the summer months.
“We only notice them more because they tend to be more active and aggressive in anticipation of the first frost as they know what’s coming,” said Mueller.
“The wasps get the sense of coming to an end and get aggressive around their nest, protecting it, so people start to notice it.”
He added all wasps die after the first frost, but if you want to remove nest before the weather changes, Mueller recommends using wasp spray.
However, the one thing to avoid is plugging the nest or only sealing it off, as the wasp will make their way through the wall or surface, sometimes chewing their way out, and causing damage.
Unlike bees, wasps can sting their victims over and over and in some cases, the venom from the sting can be dangerous or fatal to those who are allergic.
Overall, it is best to leave it to the professionals, that way, nothing gets damaged, and no one gets hurt.
