Tsuut’ina Nation celebrates opening of Calgary’s newest Costco

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – It is a sign that a major project in Calgary is moving forward.

On Friday morning, the Costco on the Tsuut’ina First Nation opened, paving the way for construction on the southwest ring road.

The new Costco, which will part of the “Shops at Buffalo Run” development, is found at the corner of the new ring road and 130 Ave. SW.

It is the from the retail giant to be built on First Nations land.

The opening ceremony for the Costco was attended by Tsuut’ina Nation Chief Roy Whitney and Minister of Indigenous Relations, Rick Wilson.

The exact date for when the southwest ring road will be fully open to traffic is still unknown, with a deadline for the fall of 2021 in the books.

Other portions of the road, though, have opened before their completion dates.
