People frustrated with wearing a face mask, Mayor Nenshi speaks out

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – If you are frustrated with having to wear a face mask while in a store, do not take it out on the employee.

That’s coming from Mayor Naheed Nenshi after he’s heard of people getting angry because of the mandatory face mask bylaw.

“I hate hearing from teenagers who are working at a retail job that adults are yelling at them and abusing them because they don’t want to wear a mask – don’t blame them, blame me it’s the city’s bylaw. Don’t take it out on the 16-year-old behind the counter, it’s just not fair and it’s not humane, just don’t do that.”

Although it may seem like COVID-19 numbers are growing, Nenshi said the city is doing better than expected.

“This should be an exponential growth so while they have been growing a little bit, they have not grown at what were modelled them to grow before the mask bylaw came in at all.”

He added, a large majority of people are following bylaw and now with students back in school we need to remain vigilant.

The mandatory mask bylaw came into effect on August 1.
