CALGARY (660 NEWS) –The Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) says city council should tell the Calgary Flames that they will not be getting $275 million for a new arena to save money for the city.
This comes as budget discussions are happening in council next month.

The design process for the new arena is already well underway, and the idea will likely go nowhere, but this is just one of 21 proposals to cut spending.
“We are calling on the city of Calgary to move back to pre-downturn levels of spending which was the end of 2014 which would be hundreds of millions of dollars in savings for taxpayers,” said Franco Terrazzano, Alberta Director of Canadian Taxpayers Federation.
Some other proposals include cutting the mayor and council’s salaries by 20 per cent, selling all city-owned golf courses and the Calgary Parking Authority.
