Alberta records 2,268 new cases of COVID-19, 15 deaths in the last four days

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – Alberta has confirmed 2,268 new cases of COVID-19 and 15 additional deaths since Friday.

“This is not good news. This is a problem,” Dr. Deena Hinshaw said during an update to the media on Tuesday.

On average, Alberta recorded 567 new cases per day over the past four days.

That includes 581 new cases on Friday, 525 on Saturday, 592 on Sunday and 570 on Monday.

Hinshaw added that the positivity rate in the province is at 6.8 per cent, while Edmonton is much higher at almost nine per cent.

A total of 338 Albertans have died from complications with COVID-19.

“In the last four influenza seasons, the peak number of deaths we have recorded in a full year is 92. In just eight months, there have been 338 deaths from COVID-19 despite taking extraordinary measures to contain transmission,” said Hinshaw.

“As we watch for the impact of our changes, it is critical that all Albertans continue to follow all public health measures regardless of where they live.”

There are now 6,110 active cases within the province, up 938 since the last update on Oct. 30.

Of those cases, 167 are in hospital, which is up 27.

27 others are in ICU, up two.

There were 46,036 tests conducted in the last four days.
