City of Calgary warming up parks with temporary fire pits

CALGARY (CityNews) – The City of Calgary is hoping to encourage people to socialize safely with temporary fire pits and free firewood scattered throughout city parks this winter.

The small, residential-style fire pits are free to use as long as there are no more than 10 people and you’re socially distanced.

Starting Nov. 28, two hours of free firewood will also be available for those with permits at the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary in SE Calgary.

Fire pits are available in each quadrant of the city from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekdays and weekends, but priority will be given to those who book them with a permit.

Bookable times are 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and are available on the city’s website.

The city is asking people to respect the limits on social gatherings, not to share food or drinks and use a face covering if you can’t distance properly even when outdoors.
