Calgary Zoo confirms pandas are back home in China

After two days of travel, the pair of pandas Calgarians visited at the Calgary Zoo are now back home in China.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – After travelling for nearly two days and thousands of kilometres, Calgary’s beloved pandas are back home in China.

The Calgary Zoo announced on Sunday that Er Shun and Da Mao arrived safely in China at Chongqing Zoo.

The pandas left Calgary on Friday following months of work to secure international travel permits to return to China.

The zoo announced this past spring that the pair would be leaving Calgary due to struggles importing fresh bamboo for the pandas.

Er Shun and Da Mao arrived in Calgary in 2018, along with cubs Jia Panpan and Jia Yueyue, after spending five years at the Toronto Zoo.

The cubs returned to China in January and their parents were supposed to remain in Calgary until 2023.
