CPS issue warrants for suspects believed to be involved in police officer’s death

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Calgary Police Service has issued arrest warrants for two individuals alleged to be involved in the death of a Calgary Police officer.

Police are looking for a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man, in connection with the incident at around 10:50 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2020. An application was made to the Youth Division of Calgary Provincial Court in order to identify the youth charged in this case.

A vehicle was stopped by Sgt. Andrew Harnett in the area of Falconridge Boulevard and Falconridge Drive N.E. The vehicle fled the traffic stop and struck Sgt. Harnett, police allege.

Nearby patrols rushed to the scene where fellow officers along with paramedics performed life-saving measures — though were unable to succeed. Officer Harnett was pronounced deceased at the hospital just before midnight.

Police say the vehicle is a copper-coloured, 2006 Infiniti FX, with a small spare tire on the front passenger side. The vehicle also has noticeable hail damage.

Anyone with any information regarding the suspects or the vehicle is asked to call the Homicide Tip Line at 403-428-8877, or the CPS non-emergency line at 403-266-1234.
