Police charge man with sexual assault of 90-year-old woman

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Police are calling it a shocking and heinous crime after a 90-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at her Calgary apartment.

Police said it happened on Jan. 1 in an apartment along 31 St. NW near Confederation Park.

The elderly woman told police that a man had entered her apartment around 11:00 that evening and sexually assaulted her.

“This was a shocking and heinous crime committed on a vulnerable member of our community,” said S/Sgt. Michelle Doyle. “We will continue to ensure the victim has access to supports to help them through this difficult time.”

Following an investigation, police have charged a 36-year-old man with aggravated sexual assault and break and enter.
