CALGARY (CityNews) — Earthquakes Canada has reported a 3.9-magnitude earthquake 6 km from Banff Saturday night.

The seismic shake was reportedly felt in nearby regions including Banff and Canmore.

It happened around 6:30 p.m.

“It was almost like disbelief,” said Hilsden. “It felt like an earthquake should, I hadn’t really been in one before. Being in Banff, you don’t expect earthquakes at all.”

On Twitter, the Town of Banff confirmed the quake and reassured residents that no local damage had yet been identified.
