CALGARY (CityNews) — Earthquakes Canada has reported a 3.9-magnitude earthquake 6 km from Banff Saturday night.
The seismic shake was reportedly felt in nearby regions including Banff and Canmore.
It happened around 6:30 p.m.
University student Jay Hilsden says he was laying in bed after a day of skiing when his hotel began to shake.
“It was almost like disbelief,” said Hilsden. “It felt like an earthquake should, I hadn’t really been in one before. Being in Banff, you don’t expect earthquakes at all.”
No damage has been nor is expected to be reported, according to the government website.
On Twitter, the Town of Banff confirmed the quake and reassured residents that no local damage had yet been identified.
