CALGARY (660 NEWS) — One man has died while and woman and an infant are fighting for their lives after a collision near Chinook Centre Thursday night.
The collision took place around 8:15 p.m. at Glenmore Trail near Macleod Trail southeast.
Police said the driver of an SUV was travelling south on Macleod Trail SE in the right-hand exit lane for westbound Glenmore Trail SE.
A man, woman, and an infant in a stroller were crossing the street to the raised island between the right turn lane and the through travel lanes when they were struck.
The man died on scene while the woman and the infant were taken to Foothills Hospital and the Alberta Children’s Hospital, respectively, in serious, life-threatening condition.
The driver fled the crash site by foot before he was arrested by police a short time later.
Investigators are looking into drug use and excessive speed as possible factors.
The road, which was closed for several hours, has since reopened but police are still investigating the crash.
