Alberta confirms 14 more variant cases of COVID-19

14 more cases of the COVID-19 variant first identified in the U.K. have been reported in Alberta. Tara Overholt has the latest on COVID-19 in the province and vaccinations across the country for Friday, February 19.

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – There have been 14 additional variant cases of COVID-19 found in Alberta.

All of the new cases are confirmed as the B.1.1.7 variant, first discovered in the UK.

Alberta now has uncovered 253 variant cases in the province.

There were 325 new cases of COVID-19 found in 9,376 tests, putting the province’s positivity rate at 3.5 per cent.

Seven more deaths have been attributed to the virus, bringing Alberta’s death total to 1,812.

There are currently 4,840 active cases in the province, 352 of which are in hospital and 55 in the ICU.

A total of 123,703 Albertans have recovered from the virus.
