Overdose in Piikani Nation leaves one dead

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Another community in southern Alberta is reporting a suspected overdose that happened over the weekend after three people died in Drumheller on Feb. 20.

The RCMP says it happened on the Piikani Nation, south of Fort MacLeod on Feb. 21 at 8:38 a.m.

An 18-year-old woman was found to be in cardiac arrest and died despite life-saving efforts by first responders.

An autopsy is scheduled for later in the week in Calgary.

The RCMP says it’s unlikely that the overdoses in Drumheller—-where a 21-year-old and 27-year-old died—-are connected.

Authorities are again warning the public that illegal drugs could be laced with fentanyl, carfentanyl, or other deadly substances.

If anyone has information about this incident, please contact the Piikani RCMP at 403-965-2000 or your local police.

If you want to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers.
