EDMONTON (660 NEWS) — An online resource for old and new government publications will be shut down this summer.
The Alberta Government Library is set to close in July, according to a statement from Service Alberta.
A spokesperson said in an email sent to 660 NEWS that the closure will save about $1.2 million a year, and the library was only being used by a small number of government employees.
However, they stress that no information will be lost.
“In the coming months, the library’s physical collections will be offered to other libraries,” the statement reads. “Many of the publications held by the library are already held by other libraries and archives, and some will be available on the Open Government portal.”
The library employs 12 full-time equivalent positions, with two being redeployed elsewhere with five positions currently vacant.
