Police say traffic is not flowing in that area and will likely stay that way for several hours.
Emergency crews are re-routing traffic to Highway 1A.
Police say travel is not recommended on several highways in Alberta due to blowing snow, icy roads and poor conditions.
Environment Canada has weather warnings in effect for much of southern and eastern Alberta.
They range from wind warnings in the Brooks area — with gusts up to 100 kilometres an hour — to a winter storm warning around Lloydminster, where high winds and heavy snowfall are expected.
The heavy winds also led to a semi rollover on the QEII highway near Airdrie.
Winds still rip through #alberta causing havoc on major Hwy’s. Accidents and rolled vehicles litter Hwy 2. Motorist please take it easy out here. #abstorm #airdrie @660NEWS @citynewscalgary pic.twitter.com/1rRbMcI1od
