Accused in police officer’s death to appear in court

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – An 18-year-old charged in the hit-and-run death of a Calgary police officer is due to appear in court Monday.

The accused is charged with first-degree murder in the New Year’s Eve death of Sgt. Andrew Harnett, who had tried to pull over a vehicle because its plates didn’t match its registration.

The accused, who was 17 when he was charged, can’t be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

He last appeared in court on Mar. 2 and was granted more time to find a lawyer.

He remains in custody after a judge denied him bail back in February.
