Calgary police arrest Pawlowski brothers for ‘illegal in-person gathering’

CALGARY (CityNews) — Two vocal figures of the anti-lockdown and anti-restriction movement in Alberta were arrested on Saturday, according to police.
Calgary police say Artur Pawlowski and Dawid Pawlowski have been arrested and charged with organizing and promoting an illegal in-person gathering.
In a release, police say the Pawlowski brothers violated a May 6 court order by Alberta Health Services (AHS) connected to “mandatory compliance of public health orders for gatherings.”
“This order imposes new restrictions on organizers of protests and demonstrations requiring compliance with public health orders including masking, physical distancing, and attendance limits,” the Calgary Police Service said in the release.
CPS says it served the Pawlowskis the new court order prior to Saturday’s church service.
“The service organizers acknowledged the injunction, but chose to ignore requirements for social distancing, mask-wearing, and reduced capacity limits for attendees, and continued with the event,” continued the release.

This all comes as the premier said the province would be cracking down harder on these violations to try and stop the health care system from being overwhelmed.
Meantime, Calgary will be looking at increasing fines for those who break the mandatory mask order at Monday’s council meeting.
