E-scooter pilot project launches next month in Okotoks

OKOTOKS – People who live in one of Calgary’s border communities will now have another option for commuting through the town.

Okotoks has partnered with Bird to bring in 50 e-scooters for people who live south of Calgary to enjoy.

“This is a great opportunity for Okotoks to provide an environmentally friendly alternative to short car trips, and is a wonderful recreational opportunity that also helps our community meet our active transportation goals,” said Mayor Bill Robertson in a release.

Riders will be able to use the scooters in the central part of town between Milligan and Cimarron drives, and between Northridge and Crystal Ridge drives, on sidewalks, exclusive bicycle lanes, pathways, and roadways without road markings.

The partnership is part of an e-scooter pilot program that will run from June until October.

At the end of the program, the town will review its success and determine if the e-scooter will make a return next summer.
