Chucks cancelled, evening show ‘reimagined’ due to COVID-19, says Stampede

CALGARY – Major changes have been made for the 2021 installment of the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth due to the pandemic.
The Calgary Stampede says community safety is a top priority and that’s why it’s made the decision to cancel the chuckwagon races for this year.

“We look forward to the thunder and thrill of the Chuckwagon Races returning in 2022,” reads a statement from the Stampede.
The Grandstand show will also be altered, with a “reimagined” evening show taking place instead.
Paul Brandt no longer expected to perform as a part of that show.

“For 2021 only, we are planning a brand-new Evening Show experience that will include high energy western events, competitive rodeo, live music, The Young Canadians, emotion-filled celebration and one of the largest fireworks displays in Canada.”
The Stampede says planning for other hallmarks–including the rodeo, midway, Elbow River Camp, live music at Nashville North and The Big Four Roadhouse, BMO Market, Western Showcase, agriculture showcases and competitions–is still underway and the exhibition will continue heed guidance from Alberta Health.
