CALGARY — A powerline that connects Alberta and British Columbia went offline on Thursday afternoon, leaving thousands throughout Alberta without any power.
The Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) tweeting out details of the disconnect shortly after.
At 2:43 p.m., the transmission line connecting AB to B.C. went offline unexpectedly. There was approx 700 MW of supply coming to Alberta at that time. The grid’s safety systems kicked in and temporarily caused local power outages. (1/2)

Some of those power outages could be seen in communities like Royal Oak, Hillhurst, Arbour Lake and more.
While the outages did last between one and two hours, ENMAX says most power has now been restored.
We've safely restored power to Rocky Ridge, Royal Oak, Arbour Lake, Golden Triangle, Dover, Forest Lawn Industrial, Erin Woods and Valleyfield. Thanks for hanging in there while we got things back up and running. https://t.co/WOjWO0qDpP #yyc pic.twitter.com/77XLUJEZVt
