Alberta cities break heat records Wednesday, Calgary could break record Thursday

CALGARY – While Wednesday was hot in Calgary and Edmonton, it wasn’t quite enough to break any heat records for June 2.
A few other cities in Alberta, however, were hot enough to set new records.
Brooks saw a peak temperature of 32.2 degrees. The previous record was 31.3 set in 2019.

Lethbridge’s record, which before Wednesday was 30.1 degrees was also previously set in 2019. That city got up to 32.9 degrees.
Drumheller reached a high of 32.7 degrees, breaking the previous record of 20.4 set in 2006.
Edson beat its previous record by nearly three whole degrees, surpassing the 2007 record of 27.6 degrees to hit a high of 30.2.
Calgary could break a record Thursday. The current record for June 3 is 32.2 degrees.

A heat warning remains in effect for about half of the province and is expected to stay in place until at least Friday.
Environment Canada warns people to watch for signs of the stroke with the heatwave, adding people should consider rescheduling outdoor activities to take part when it’s cooler, take frequent breaks from the heat, and drink plenty of water.
