Alberta reports 150 new COVID-19 cases, 69.9% of eligible population vaccinated

CALGARY — As Albertans furiously checked to see if Stage 3 of the province’s reopening would be set for Canada Day, it seems the province fell just short — 3,672 first-dose vaccine appointments short to be exact.
As of Thursday afternoon, 69.9 per cent of the province’s eligible population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.
This puts the province within 0.1 per cent of hitting the threshold required for the next stage of Alberta’s reopening plan.

In total, there were nearly 48,000 vaccine doses administered over the last day, with 5,342 being first-dose appointments.
As for Thursday’s COVID-19 numbers update, there were 150 new cases identified on 6,044 tests — a positivity rate of roughly 2.5 per cent.
There are currently 2,471 active cases of the virus in Alberta, a drop of 168 from Wednesday.

There are now 242 people in hospital, 58 of which are in intensive care.
There were two additional deaths reported on Thursday.
