Southeast Calgary fire displaces several residents

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Five Calgarians have been displaced from their homes after a fire broke out this morning.
At around 2 a.m. the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to a two-storey residential duplex in the southeast neighbourhood of Cranston.
When fire crews arrived, they noticed large volumes of smoke and fire coming from the building.
However, before CFD’s arrival, three residents and two cats from the source home, along with two other residents and two cats from the attached home, evacuated safely.
Two people were assessed by EMS, one with complaints of smoke inhalation and the other with minor burns to their arm — neither was transported to the hospital.
Crews are working on salvaging and overhauling to make sure further property damaged is stopped. Meanwhile, both home’s occupants will be displaced while repairs will have to be made to their homes.
The cause and origin of the blaze is still unknown.
