Fireworks, special celebration kits put together to help Calgary mark Canada Day

CALGARY – Don’t expect any big public parties to celebrate Canada’s birthday this year in Calgary.
The city announced its plans for the celebration Wednesday and is encouraging people to have small gatherings on the day, with COVID-19 in mind.
The city will be giving out special celebration kits to help Calgarians mark Canada Day safely. Kits will include things like a beach ball and sidewalk chalk.

There will also be online celebration kits, which won’t include the ball or chalk, and a special show that is set to air on CJSW.
And, of course, there will be a fireworks show at 11 p.m.
The fireworks will be launched from Tom Campbell Hill to help make sure as much of the city as possible has a view of the show.

July 1 will also be the day the province enters the final stage of reopening with the remaining COVID-19 restrictions lifting.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi says with restrictions lifting, there might be some anxiety about attending large gatherings, so there won’t be any big city-hosted events.

Nenshi will instead attend a few smaller events throughout the day.
