CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Homeless shelters in Calgary are pleading for donations of water and sunscreen following a stretch of hot weather and more in the forecast next week.
The Mustard Seed says there’s an urgent need for bottled water.

Drew Gusztakm, Volunteer Resources & Street Level Manager, says the shelter has already gone through a few hundred cases within the past week.
“It happened so suddenly due to the heatwave and our clients coming in and requesting water that it took us by surprise,” said Gusztakm. “This could be a serious crisis for us if we don’t get ahead of it right now.”
He says those living on the streets are at risk of dehydration, heatstroke, or worse.
“In the years where we noticed a lot of smoke from the forest fires up north, people did die on the streets because of the heat, absolutely.”
Donations can be dropped off at The Mustard Seed’s Downtown Support Centre on 11 Avenue SE or its Foothills Emergency Shelter on 44 Street SE.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Calgary Drop-In Centre tweeted it is in need of donations of sunscreen.
