Sikome Lake to remain closed for the summer

CALGARY – A popular swimming spot in southeast Calgary will be closed for the summer.
The province says due to the amount of prep work needed to get Sikome Lake in Fish Creek Park ready for visitors, it won’t be opening for 2021.
“Preparation timeliness include at least two months to fill the lake, calibrate the treatment plant, treat the water, and hire and train specialized staff to work at the site,” reads a statement from the office of Environment and Parks Minister Jason Nixon.
The statement goes on to explain that the decision to keep Sikome closed was made in May.
“That’s when COVID case numbers and hospitalizations were high—due to uncertainty, opening plans were put on hold.”
