‘I’m trying to process’: Calgary Bishop remembers Pope Francis

WATCH: A coyote in northwest Calgary bit three people over the weekend. The City has tracked the animal, and plans to remove the danger to the community

CALGARY – The councilor who represents the northwest Calgary community of Tuscany says a coyote that attacked three people over the weekend has been located and it will be “removed”.

Ward Sutherland is telling people not to feed any animals or provide a water source for them as it draws more wildlife into the city.

Coyote attacks have increased over the last few weeks, specifically in the northwest.

The city confirmed last week an aggressive coyote was put down after attacking people living in Nolan Hill.

There are reports that there were more attacks in Tuscany over the weekend.

“This is actually quite dangerous,” said Mayor Naheed Nenshi on Monday. “We’ve had three people who were injured enough to go to hospital over the course of the weekend, so it’s clear that for that particular animal hazing is not working.”

Nenshi says the city is going to have to look at a different approach, and that putting down the animals leads to more brazen behaviour.

“They breed faster and they tend to be more aggressive so you’ve really got to have the right balance here. Clearly, our commitment here has to be to human safety.”

The city is investigating the weekend attacks.
