CALGARY – Fire advisories and bans are now in effect for most places surrounding Calgary as a massive heatwave blankets much of western Canada.
Alberta Wildfire issued a fire advisory for the Calgary forest area Monday.

Advisories are in effect for Rocky View and Foothills Counties, as well as all through the mountain parks area.
The wildfire agency says all existing fire permits are suspended, with the exception of burn barrels, and no new permits are being issued for the Calgary forest area.
Some campfires will still be allowed for those spending the week roughing it.
Fires that are contained within metal, brick, or rock fire rings are allowed, but they must be on rock, gravel, sand, or another non-combustible surface that extends at least a metre past the fire.
Alberta Wildfire also says a responsible person must monitor the fire to make sure it’s under control at all times and there must be enough water on site to extinguish the fire.
