CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgary police are investigating a fatal stabbing that took place in the city’s southwest last week of a Good Samaritan attempting to break up a fight, and they are seeking information from the public.
Police believe a man was fatally stabbed on June 30 around 7 p.m. after he tried to intervene in an altercation between a woman and a man at James Short Park. The woman allegedly told the man to stop hitting her, at which point the victim got involved.
CPS say they think the male suspect pulled out a knife, at which point the victim ran into a car that was stopped on 5 Avenue, near the Centre Street S.W. intersection. After the vehicle drove away, the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim.
He was transported to hospital, where he later died. The victim cannot be identified until after Tuesday’s autopsy.
CPS are seeking information from the public, including the driver of the vehicle present during the altercation.
“People may have seen the altercation and not know that it resulted in such a serious and tragic outcome,” said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta in a release. “If you witnessed anything in the area that might be connected to this incident, have dash-cam footage, or any other information, please call us.
“Even the smallest piece of information can turn out to be the most important detail we need to figure out what happened.”
