CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgary Police Service (CPS) and Calgary EMS responded to two incidents in the early hours of Sunday that sent several people to hospital.

Just before 2 a.m. police responded to 12 Street and Memorial Drive NE near the zoo for reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

CPS says a man in his 30s was transported to Foothills Hospital in life-threatening condition.

Police say the driver who struck the pedestrian did not remain on the scene. The vehicle is believed to be a light-coloured, medium- to large-sized, four-door sedan.

Neither the driver nor the vehicle have been found.

“We are doing everything we can to find the driver of the vehicle involved in this collision and know that someone out there knows something,” said Sgt. Colin Foster in a release.

“Hit and runs cause the same harm to the victims as other collisions, but with the added emotional pain of knowing the person responsible did not even care enough to stop and help. We put everything we can into these investigations, and the charges and sentence usually end up being way more serious for the driver than if they had just stayed at the scene.”

Shooting in the southeast

Hours later, police were called to the neighbourhood of Erin Woods for reports of shots fired.

Around 5 a.m. CPS officers showed up to 50 Street SE, near the Oasis Mobile Home Park.

EMS says three people were taken to hospital.

The man—who police say was the victim—was transported to hosptial in critical condition.

Police later arrested a man in his 30’s who was then sent to hospital in stable condition.

A third man was also taken to hospital in serious but stable condition — though it’s unconfirmed what the person’s involvement was in the incident.
