CALGARY — A man and his dog are dead after a shooting in the southwest quadrant of the city on Wednesday.
Police say the shooting happened around 1:30 p.m. along Cresthaven Place S.W., just south of 16 Avenue.
“This shooting took place in the middle of the day in a neighbourhood area where people were out walking their dogs. We are currently speaking with a number of witnesses who were in the area at the time of the shooting and are asking anyone with information to contact police,” says Homicide Unit Staff Sgt. Colin Chisholm in a release. “We will not tolerate this kind of reckless disregard for public safety and will dedicate as many resources as it takes to finding the person or persons responsible.”

The suspect is said to have fled in a car, one that may have been recovered by Cochrane RCMP later on Wednesday.
Police say, at this time, they don’t believe the shooting to be random.
The identity of the victim is not expected to be released until next of kin have been notified.
