Special air quality statement issued as smoke rolls through Calgary

With heat warnings and special air quality statements from Environment Canada, Calgary could be dealing with heat and smoke over the next few days. Tara Overholt has more on the recommendations going forward.

CALGARY — Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for Calgary as smoke makes its way through the city.

Calgary avoided receiving much of the wildfire smoke over the last few weeks, but as winds shifted, air quality in the city quickly deteriorated Wednesday.

“Wildfire smoke is a constantly-changing mixture of particles and gasses which includes many chemicals that can harm your health,” Environment Canada said in its statement Wednesday evening.
