CALGARY – It’s not quite the model of lawnmower you’re used to seeing in the city’s green spaces.
A team of goats has been deployed to trim the greenery and manage invasive species in McHugh Bluff this week.
The goats, along with a shepherd, will be at the park for “targeted grazing” until July 25.
McHugh Bluff is one of a few parks that the goats have been sent to.
The grazing program started as a pilot in 2016 and after its success in Confluence Park, the city expanded it to include McHugh Bluff, Ralph Klein Park, and the Fish Creek Waste Water Treatment Plant.
The city says the goats were able to access hard-to-reach areas, like steep slopes or rocky areas, and the animals grazed on the targeted invasive species.
