Calgary police looking for tips in string of suspicious church vandalisms

CALGARY – Calgary police are looking for tips in a string of recent vandalism at churches in the city.

CPS began investigating earlier this month after orange and red paint was used to vandalize 10 churches around the city in the late night hours of June 30 and into the early morning hours of July 1.

Handprints and the number “215” were marked on the buildings, which makes police believe the vandalism was in response to recent discoveries of unmarked gravesites at residential schools in B.C. and Saskatchewan.

In one case, a window was smashed so paint could be thrown inside the church.

A few days later, there was a fire at a church in Forest Heights that police believe is suspicious and might’ve been intentionally set.

Since then, there have been no other reports of vandalism at churches.

CPS is sharing CCTV pictures of suspects believed to be involved in hopes someone might recognize them.
