Fire bans in place for Calgary, Rocky Mountain forest areas

CALGARY – The hot, dry weather has lead to a new fire ban for portions of southwestern Alberta.
Alberta Wildfire says the ban on backyard fire pits and open fires in campgrounds and random camping areas is in place for the south portion of the Calgary forest area because the fire danger is now extreme.

Even though it has Calgary in the name, it’s not that close to the city and covers an area from the Waterton Lakes National Park, north to Highway 562.
Closer to the city, a fire restriction is in effect for the northern part of the Calgary forest area, and parts of the Rocky Mountain House Forest area which means fires in random camping areas and backcountry areas are prohibited, but you can still have a fire at your campsite or backyard.
