Charges laid following fatal crash near Lake Louise

LAKE LOUISE – Mounties west of Calgary have laid charges a day after a crash on Highway 1 killed someone.

Thursday morning, a couple from Ontario parked their car at a rest area just east of Lake Louise. They got out of the car to take photos when a westbound truck hit them in the shoulder of the highway.

The man died on the scene. The woman was rushed to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The truck did not stop at the scene, but RCMP in Golden, B.C. found the vehicle and its driver a few hours later.

A 45-year-old man from Calgary has been charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident resulting in death, and failing to stop after an accident causing bodily harm.

The driver is being brought back to Alberta to face the charges.
