Hinshaw implies family docs consulted on COVID policy changes, they say that’s not true

CALGARY – A group of Alberta doctors says it was not consulted about changing COVID-19 protocols in the province, despite Dr. Deena Hinshaw implying otherwise.

The president of the Alberta College of Family Physicians says they were not aware COVID-19 policies were changing until the evening before the announcement was made late last month.

“Hinshaw had implied [at a recent townhall] that she consulted with our organization the Alberta College of Family Physicians regarding the policy changes that were announced by her on July 28. That’s not the case,” Sudha Koppula told CityNews.

“We did not provide input, or have an agreement policy should have one thing that we’re sharing.”

Not only was the ACFP not consulted, but the organization says they’re against the changes the province is making.

“Our members say that they are concerned about not just the feasibility of managing COVID and other respiratory viruses, but having the right support for change,” explained Koppula.

“They’re concerned for the safety of their patients, their staff, and their communities with no restrictions. Our members are concerned, particularly about rural communities, and our rural colleagues and the large populations that are there, that the province will be overwhelmed.”
