Two people killed, three injured in head-on crash west of Calgary

COCHRANE – Police say a head-on crash west of Calgary has killed two people and injured three more.
EMS spokesman Adam Loria says the head-on collision on the Trans-Canada Highway, which was between a semi, a five-tonne truck and a car, took place around 11:20 a.m. Wednesday near Morley.

RCMP say an early investigation has determined the five-tonne truck was heading east on Hwy.1, west of Morley, when it drove through the grass median and into oncoming traffic.
That’s when police say the truck collided head-on with a white car.
A semi-truck that was travelling westbound was unable to avoid the crash and rear-ended the car — while another cube van that was also travelling westbound struck the semi-truck.
The two occupants of the white car were confirmed dead on scene.
Loria says three people were transported by ambulances to the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
Traffic on the busy highway is expected to be affected for several hours.
Police say motorists travelling west are being rerouted through Morley Road to Highway 1A.
