Pride Week kicks off in Calgary with B!G Pride 2021

CALGARY — Pride Week kicked off in Calgary on Friday with B!G Pride 2021.

Though the annual parade is virtual this year, it is not stopping the community from shining a light on LGBTQ artists, performers and folks all-in-all.

A new blended format is being introduced, with scattered events happening both in-person and virtually.

Although it’s called Pride Week — various events will be held all month long.

Pride parade will be virtual this year, other in-person events lined up

Along with featuring LGBTQ2S+ artists, online Pride Cast episodes have been uploaded every Friday through August sharing community stories.

Meanwhile, there will be five days of in-person and live-streamed entertainment at the B!G ART Drive-In at Telus Spark.

All of this leading up to Parade Day at the Drive-In on Sep. 5.

“We bottled Pride in the Park into this new format which is like a mixed format for this unchanging, unrealistic, and kinda like ambiguous regulations that are going around,” said Sumit Munjal, the manager of production and programming with Calgary Pride. “So, this is our way of saying ‘we are here, we are queer, we don’t pivot, we sashay.”
