CALGARY — A community hockey rink is getting a new name in remembrance of a fallen police officer.
The Falconridge/Castleridge Community Association, along with Mayor Naheed Nenshi and the Calgary Police Service, has renamed its rink to the Sgt. Andrew Harnett Memorial Rink.
Thank you to the Falconridge Castleridge Community Association for honouring fallen officer Sgt. Andrew Harnett today by renaming their rink after him. To everyone who joined us today, and to those who keep Sgt. Harnett's spirit and memory alive, thank you. #WeWillRemember #yyc pic.twitter.com/s5Nxy8zJZN

Sgt. Harnett was killed in the line of duty on New Year’s Eve while conducting a traffic stop.

It was an emotional day at the Sgt. Andrew Harnett Memorial Rink dedication. I’m so grateful for his service and his love of NE Calgary. Feels right that kids from all over the world will enjoy this space in Falconridge/Castleridge and know of him. pic.twitter.com/aPJxJ4HoMp
