Kenney says more COVID measures would end up punishing the vaccinated

CALGARY – Alberta Premier Jason Kenney is rejecting the idea of a “fire break lockdown” as support for the measure grows.
Prominent Alberta doctors, including the province’s former chief medical officer of health say a hard lockdown paired with transporting Alberta’s ICU patients out of province would give the health-care system some much-needed relief.

The lockdown would affect everything like indoor dining, casinos, retailers, gyms, and sports facilities.
On a Corus radio program, Kenney said that the roughly 20 per cent of Albertans who refuse to get the vaccine are behind the fourth wave, and more lockdown measures would only end up being followed by responsible people who already did what they were supposed to do — get vaccinated.

He argued the lockdown would just end up punishing vaccinated Albertans while the unvaccinated would likely refuse to follow public health orders.
Alberta has over 20,000 active cases with an average of over a thousand new cases being added each day.
