Calgary Catholic school renamed Our Lady of the Rockies

CALGARY (660NEWS) – The Calgary Catholic School District (CCSD) has officially renamed a high school after its name was removed due to ties with residential schools.

In June, following discoveries of unmarked graves at sites of former residential school sites and public outcry, the CCSD voted to change the name of Bishop Grandin High School.

The school was temporarily renamed Haysboro Catholic High School while consultations took place for the new name.

The CCSD said the new name – Our Lady of the Rockies – was chosen from a list of five names that came after meetings with the community and members of the Indigenous community.

The school board confirmed a renaming ceremony will take place at a later date.
