Calgary continues to see record advanced voting numbers ahead of municipal election

CALGARY — Ahead of the municipal election, it seems more Calgarians are eager to avoid potential long lineups on voting day.

The city has broken advanced voting records every day since early voting began on Monday, with more than 18,000 people turning out each day.

As of Thursday, more than 81,000 people have gone to advanced polls to cast their ballot.

The daily breakdown for the week is as follows:

  • 23,517 ballots cast on Monday
  • 18,988 ballots cast on Tuesday
  • 19,127 ballots cast on Wednesday
  • 19,639 ballots cast on Thursday

In comparison, only 74,965 early ballots were cast in 2017, while back in 2013, just 22,410 people turned out for advanced polling.

The city says the early voting numbers remain unofficial as it does not include shelters, care facilities and post-secondary institutions.

Advanced voting will run until Sunday at 3 p.m.
