One of the new councillors heading to Calgary City Hall will have a different last name when she officially takes up the post.
Ward 11’s representative will be known as Kourtney Penner, after announcing that she is returning to her maiden name.
1/ I recently made the decision to go back to my maiden name (Penner). The decision to change one's last name, either after marriage, or after divorce, is not always a simple decision.

Penner ran under the name Branagan during the election, because her divorce was not finalized until after announcing plans to run for council.
She said it was not a simple decision and needed some time to adjust, but is now proud to serve as Councillor Penner moving forward.
Penner replaced former Ward 11 Councillor Jeromy Farkas, who lost his bid for mayor in the Oct. 18 election.
Penner and the rest of the new council, along with Mayor-elect Jyoti Gondek, will be sworn in on Monday.
