Suspicious package shuts down Calgary courthouse

A bomb threat briefly shut down Calgary’s courthouse on Monday.

Shortly before 11 a.m., emergency crews were called to the building at 5 St. and 6 Ave. SW after people reported an unknown man entering the courthouse with a suspicious package.

“Upon police arrival, it was determined the threat was not legitimate and no explosive device or substance was located,” the Calgary Police Service (CPS) said in a statement to CityNews.

CPS says the first floor of the building was evacuated and access to the Courts Centre was temporarily closed while an investigation was conducted.

No injuries were reported and both the road outside the centre and the building itself, have since reopened.

Police have one man in custody as they continue to investigate.
