Calgary reports 86% of city employees at least partially vaccinated

The City of Calgary says, as of Friday, 86 per cent of City employees are at least partially vaccinated against COVID-19.

Employees must declare their vaccination status and upload their records by Nov. 1.

The city says that of that 86 per cent, 82 per cent are fully vaccinated, and four per cent are partially vaccinated.

The Calgary Police Service is reporting 85 per cent of its members are fully vaccinated and three per cent are partially vaccinated.

“The City of Calgary places a primary importance on ensuring the safety of our employees and citizens,” said City Manager David Duckworth in a release. “I’m pleased to see that the majority of our employees have stepped up to get their vaccinations, which is proven to be the best defense against COVID-19.”

Those who are not fully vaccinated come Nov. 1 will be required to take a rapid test program and participate in a mandatory education program about the importance of vaccines.

After Dec. 1, city employees who are still not fully vaccinated must continue to take part in the rapid test program at their own expense.

“As public servants, each of us must do our part to protect ourselves, our co-workers and our community whether through vaccination or rapid testing,” said Duckworth.

Mayor Jyoti Gondek responded to the update on Friday afternoon, saying, “With 82 per cent of City employees fully vaccinated and 4 per cent partially, I’m encouraged by the progress. However, our only way out of the pandemic is through vaccination.

“I encourage any remaining City employee—and any Calgarian—who has not yet been vaccinated, to do so now.

“While our healthcare workers are working tirelessly on the front lines, we must each take responsibility and do our part. This is a matter of urgency. We must act now.”
