Calgary doctor saves two men with CPR, performs their surgeries

Dr. Corey Adams should perhaps buy himself a superhero costume.

Adams, a cardiac surgeon at the University of Calgary’s Libin Cardiovascular Institute, has saved two men in the past 18 months by performing CPR on them in public and, days later, operating on them.

In June of last year, Adams and his wife were hiking when a man on a trail collapsed.

Adams saved the 60-year-old with CPR and days later found himself performing a quintuple heart bypass on the same man.

It happened again this past August when his wife, who is also a doctor, spotted a man who had collapsed while jogging.

Adams says the man had no pulse, so they both did CPR on him until he was taken to hospital, where Adams replaced one of his heart valves.

He says he’s been teased by colleagues who say he has enough patients without driving around looking for more.
