Two dead, one in critical condition following SW Calgary crash

Two people are dead and one other is fighting for their life in hospital after a serious crash in southwest Calgary.
2 dead after a fatal crash on 17th Ave and 29th St. in the SW. One was pronounced at the scene while the other succumbed to their injuries in hospital. 17th Ave between 30th and 28th SW is still closed as Police continue to investigate. #yyc #calgary @citynewscalgary pic.twitter.com/YzTe3Yr1ZQ

Police and EMS were called to the two-car crash at 17 Avenue and 29 Street shortly after 8 a.m.
Officers say it looks like one car rear-ended the other. The driver of the first vehicle was taken to hospital and is in life-threatening condition.
The two elderly people in the other car were killed in the crash.

Police say traffic at that intersection has been shut down as they investigate, adding that no cause of the crash has been determined yet.
Drivers are being asked to avoid the area if possible.
